Steam Page Reveals PlayStation VR 2 Support On PC Arrives August 6th

Entering a few years after the initial launch of the PlayStation 5, the second iteration for PlayStation VR 2 rolled out and remains mixed at best for how the peripheral was handled this time around. While initially regarded as a defining addition for the platform, the lack of legacy support & asking price being more than the console required to play on was a major drawback for consumers.

Additionally, performance amongst competitors remained to trail behind for PlayStation VR 2. This past holiday records the system outsold 10x by the Meta Quest 2. Furthermore, Sony Interactive Entertainment even acknowledges the rough turnout for its platform as well. One report recently indicates that the platform has been minimized to two internal projects currently with little life left in the effort.

Moreover, this steady decline is probably why it was revealed PC support is underway for the device. Specifically, a unique adapter for the headset would be sold enabling users to access SteamVR and other storefronts via the PlayStation headset. Recently, the official Steam Page for the PlayStation VR 2 went live disclosing the official release coming the first week of August.

“Enjoy virtual reality games and apps on Steam with PlayStation VR2! Play VR games and apps on Steam using your PlayStation VR2 headset and PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers. Set up your PlayStation VR2 on your PC. Update the firmware for your PlayStation VR2 headset and PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers. Adjust settings for your PlayStation VR2 from the SteamVR dashboard, including setting your play area and screen brightness.

“You’ll need the following to get started with PlayStation VR2 App: PlayStation VR2 VR headset, PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers (Connect via Bluetooth), PlayStation VR2 PC adapter,” the description for the Steam Page reads. “To play VR games and apps on Steam with PlayStation VR2, PlayStation VR2 App needs to be installed on your PC. Keep the app installed even after initial setup is complete.”
