One of the biggest ground shaking announcements all on behalf of Battlefield in the past few years was the departure of general manager Oskar Gabrielson. Working at DICE for countless year, the reality without him would be worrisome for those looking towards the future concerning the Battlefield IP. However, it was a soft blow as Respawn Entertainment founder Vince Zampella would be overlooking the property.

Since then, there has been drastic alterations to workflow at DICE for the betterment of the series. One exciting addition was Ridgeline Games with Marcus Lehto helming. The plan was to introduce a new Seattle-based team in an effort to craft a new story-focused campaign for Battlefield. But earlier in 2024, part of the mass layoffs at Electronic Arts included the demise of the young game developer.

Now in a new development for Battlefield, Dead Space remake team EA Motive has now joined the ranks alongside Criterion, DICE and Ripple Effect on the future for Battlefield.

The directors who delivered our Dead Space remake in 2023, Philippe Ducharme (Executive Producer) and Roman Campos-Oriola (Creative Director), will build a team at Motive to work alongside the Battlefield studios around the world creating what’s next for Battlefield– a universe across both multiplayer and single-player experiences.

Their proven expertise in storytelling, immersive battles and developing on the Frostbite engine uniquely positions them to help advance the vision for Battlefield, led by Vince Zampella (EVP, Group GM of Respawn and Battlefield) and Byron Beede (SVP, GM Battlefield).

“In parallel, development continues to move forward on our Iron Man project, led by Olivier Proulx (Executive Producer) and Ian Frazier (Creative Director). The team made excellent progress this year, hitting a major internal milestone and laying a robust foundation for the journey ahead. Iron Man is an important priority for Motive, and I’m very proud of the work we’ve accomplished so far.”

In a separate blog post, DICE confirms support for Battlefield 2042 is to reach its tail end with the close of Season 7. “Season 7 will serve as the final season for Battlefield 2042. After Season 7 concludes, we will continue to support the game with new in-game challenges, events, modes, and of course, ongoing maintenance, but we are moving away from delivering official seasons.”

Are you surprised with this turn of events for Battlefield?
